Looking for a fun summer day trip or family night out? The largest fireworks display in Connecticut will return to New London on Saturday, July 12th, and CTrail Shore Line East is the easiest way to get there.

While Sailfest won’t be taking place this year, the fireworks show is still on, and it’s the perfect chance to plan a relaxing day or evening in New London. Enjoy the shops, grab a bite by the water, or explore local attractions before ending the night with an unforgettable show.

To help you enjoy the evening without the hassle of traffic or parking, we have plenty of train service to get you there throughout the day. CTrail Shore Line East Train 3663 will operate on a modified schedule to accommodate the return trip from the fireworks. Times and details for this special return train are as follows:

• The NEW departure time from New London will be 10:30 p.m.
• The train will stop at all stations at these adjusted times:
  • New London: 10:30 p.m.
  • Old Saybrook: 11:06 p.m.
  • Westbrook: 11:10 p.m.
  • Clinton: 11:15 p.m.
  • Madison: 11:20 p.m.
  • Guilford: 11:25 p.m.
  • Branford: 11:34 p.m.
  • New Haven State Street: 11:44 p.m.
  • New Haven Union Station: 11:50 p.m.

If you are connecting to Metro-North, Train 6573 will be held to accommodate passengers from CTrail Shore Line East Train 3663.

In observance of Memorial Day, CTrail Shore Line East will operate on a weekend schedule on Monday, May 26, 2025.

Please be advised of an upcoming schedule change effective Monday, April 14th. These changes mark the completion of the Connecticut River Bridge construction project. 

Things to note:

• Most trains will have minor time adjustments of a few minutes.
• Some trains will have more significant changes (10 minutes or more). These include:
  • Weekday Westbound (To New Haven): CTrail 1645, Amtrak 93, Amtrak 137, CTrail 1687.
  • Weekday Eastbound (To Old Saybrook/New London): CTrail 1602
  • Weekend Westbound (To New Haven): CTrail 3637, CTrail 3645, and CTrail 3633
  • Weekend Eastbound (To New London): CTrail 3610 and CTrail 3618

Additionally, some Metro-North connections have changed. 

Please note that CTrail 1645 and CTrail 1604 will again serve all stations between New Haven and New London.

Connecticut Department of Transportation

To improve service reliability and reduce delays caused by the Connecticut River Bridge Project, we are making the following schedule adjustments starting March 10, 2025:

• Train 1645
  • Will no longer start in New London and will now begin in Old Saybrook to arrive at New Haven Union Station at 8:30 a.m.
• Train 1604
  • Will now end in Old Saybrook instead of New London and will stop at all stations from New Haven to Old Saybrook.
• Amtrak Train 95 Added to Cross-Honor Program
  • To maintain service for New London riders of Train 1645, Amtrak Train 95 will now accept Multi-ride ticket holders, but advance reservations through Amtrak’s RideReserve Program are required.

These changes will help reduce delays and improve connections, including ensuring CTrail Shore Line East 1645 connects with Metro-North 1645.

A winter storm is forecasted for our service area from Saturday, February 15, to Sunday, February 16. We are closely monitoring the situation and have pre-positioned crews and equipment to respond as necessary. CTrail Shore Line East will continue operating on our regular schedule as weather conditions permit. 

We encourage customers to take the following precautions:

• Monitor our website or service alerts for updates.
• Allow extra travel time due to the potential weather conditions.
• Exercise caution when on platforms, staircases, and when entering or exiting trains, as surfaces may be slippery.

Additionally, if you have bus or rail connections, we recommend checking with those service providers before traveling to ensure they operate as scheduled.

Your safety is our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this time.

We’re writing to inform you about upcoming adjustments to the CTrail Shore Line East schedule beginning Saturday, February 1st. These changes are necessary to accommodate a vital Amtrak construction project to replace the Connecticut River Bridge.

What to Expect:

• Adjusted Train Times: Weekday and weekend train times may be adjusted up to 35 minutes.
• Modified Arrival for Train 1645: Please note that the arrival time for Train 1645 at New Haven Union Station will be affected.
• Full Schedule Coming Soon: The detailed schedule with all adjustments will be announced the week of January 13th.

Long-Term Benefits:

This bridge replacement project will significantly improve your CTrail experience:

• Increased Reliability: The new bridge will allow for smoother and more dependable train service.
• Faster Travel Times: Trains will be able to operate at 70 mph (up from 45 mph).

Enhanced Safety: Greater vertical clearance will improve safety for maritime navigation.

On Monday, January 20, CTrail Shore Line East will operate on a regular Weekday schedule in observance of Martin Luther King Jr Day.

However, please note the following changes to the CTrail Shore Line East Thru-trains.    

• Thru-train # 1633 will end at New Haven Union Station.   
• Thru-train # 1638 will originate at New Haven Union Station and will not operate on the Metro-North portion of its route between Stamford and New Haven.

During the upcoming holiday period, CTrail Shore Line East will operate on a Weekend schedule for the dates below:

• Wednesday, December 25
  • ALL trains will operate on a Weekend schedule.

• Wednesday, January 1
  • ALL trains will operate on a Weekend schedule

Some CTrail Shore Line East trains will experience service changes due to construction on Saturday, December 7th. These include some trains not stopping at Madison Station, bus replacements, and temporary track changes, as noted below:

Madison Station Skip:

• Trains 3613, 3621, 3629, and 3637 traveling from New London to New Haven will not stop at Madison Station.
• In lieu of those trains, special express bus service will be provided from Madison Station to New Haven Union Station. 
• Passengers will need to inform the bus driver if they require a stop at any intermediate stations along the route.

Bus Departures:

The replacement buses will depart Madison Station before the trains’ regularly scheduled time. Please note the new departure times: 

• 3613 will depart Madison at 6:41 a.m. 
• 3621 will depart Madison at 8:34 a.m. 
• 3629 will depart Madison at 10:57 a.m. 
• 3637 will depart Madison at 12:36 p.m. 

 In addition, extra Metro-North connections were added to the schedule if you plan to travel west of New Haven. 

Temporary Track Changes:

Some CTrail Shore Line East trains will also have temporary track assignment changes at the following stations:

• Clinton
• Westbrook
• Guilford
• Branford

Please pay close attention to station announcements and signage to ensure you board the correct train.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we work to improve your CTrail experience.

Due to Amtrak construction, CTrail Shore Line East 1652 will depart New Haven Union Station five minutes later at 8:50 p.m. and CTrail Shore Line East 1638 will arrive in New London three minutes later beginning November 11.

We are happy to inform you that additional service will be available between New London and Stamford starting Monday, October 7. Four new trains were added, and one existing train now extends to Stamford.  

Please take note of the following changes: 

Westbound (To New Haven)

• NEW CTrail 1633 – A new thru train departing New London at 5:46 a.m. and arriving in Stamford at 7:53 a.m. 
• NEW CTrail 1695 – Departs New London at 9:05 p.m. 

Eastbound (To Old Saybrook and New London) 

• NEW CTrail 1600 – A new early-morning train departing New Haven Union Station at 4:25 a.m. 
• CTrail  1638 – A thru train departing Stamford at 4:13 p.m. and arriving at New London at 6:25 p.m.
• NEW CTrail 1640 – A new train departing New Haven Union Station at 7:45 p.m.
